Who is DJ Trickx?
Patrick ‘DJ Trickx’ Zimanyi
Patrick Zimanyi also known as DJ Trickx is a seasoned DJ, sound and technical engineer who has various experiences in sound design and setting up small scale studios. He has over 18 years’ experience in the field of music entertainment and has performed in almost every Southern African country.
His involvement in Zimbabwe's music industry has helped cement the ties we have with regional producers and radio stations. He has engineered sound for concerts, and has handled with the sound and lighting setup at more than one hundred variety shows in high schools and other youth based institutions throughout the country. He continues to work with Interact, Leos and Lions clubs and other charities that support orphans and children and will do whatever it takes to develop our music and arts industry in Zimbabwe.
Patrick 'DJ Trickx' Zimanyi is also the founding member of the Mix Masterz. The Mix Masterz is a Zimbabwean based group of music producers, DJs, artists, dance choreographers and beat-makers.
DJ Trickx first began music production in 1998 remixing songs and later producing original music at a home studio from 2004 to 2006 in a small mining town in Zimbabwe called Kwekwe. He then co-produced Q-Rigga's first debut album/mix tape “Public Propertie” in 2006 and produced numerous singles that hit the local airwaves such as TK Paradza’s “Hold On Me” and lots more. DJ Trickx then moved to Harare (Capital of Zimbabwe) to explore greater opportunities. His first big production credit was the ‘Zim Hip Hop Greats Volume One’ compilation on which he was the executive producer and also co-producer. The album featured nearly all the biggest Hip Hop artists in Zimbabwe during that time. It virtually gave birth to the new renaissance of Zim Hip Hop that is being enjoyed now.
DJ Trickx then went on to also be one of the pioneers of The Circle event at The Mannenberg (Book Cafe) hosted by Mix Masterz and Crook Ave which also boosted the Hip Hop culture in Harare and cemented its position in the music industry. He then went on to co-produce the second album from MC Chita titled 263-4 and Black Bird's Debut album “Rappetizer”.
In 2010, DJ Trickx held a 2 day workshop at HIFA called Hey DJ. He went on to publish a workshop manual which was issued to the attendants of that workshop as a guide on how to become a DJ, and the basic needs one has to have to become a DJ. DJ Trickx has also worked with the University of Zimbabwe Christian Youth group in 2011 to host a concert called Worship Ablaze which featured groups such as Zim Praise, Celebration Choir.
Other events and concerts he has been part of are The Food World Battle of the DJs, Breakdown Dance Competition DJ Trickx has also been instrumental in the setup of a number of recording studios in Harare, Kwekwe and Gweru. He has mentored a number of young producers and DJs. He’s involvement with the TV industry also led him to being a director and producer of a local Zimbabwean TV drama called Why Me in 2005-2006 and is now involved with the film and industry in Zimbabwe.
